  • First ever, all female team of Education Officers- Inspiring the next generation with STEMfest

Congratulations to Ruth Watterson and Emma Williams (both working for local company Swagelok) who have been appointed to form the first ever all-female Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Education Officer Team!

This is also a milestone for the Isle of Man as it’s the first time Education Officers have been established in the Island.

Loving all things STEM, they are both actively dedicated to the IET Education Department’s mission of inspiring young people on the Island and getting them into engineering careers, which can be a challenge.

‘The finance industry forms the key sector of the island’s economy,’ says Ruth. ‘Consequently, young people don’t always see engineering as a career option. Swagelok and other engineering companies are working together to raise the profile of engineering and the opportunity it brings. As part of my IET Education Officer role and with the support of Swagelok, we endeavour to change this. By forging close links between education and industry, we’ll be able to achieve more in the coming years on the island.’
